Sour / Hibi no Neiro

This video was shot for Sour’s ‘Hibi no Neiro’ (Tone of everyday) from their first mini album ‘Water Flavor EP’. The cast were selected from the actual Sour fan base, from many countries around the world. Each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam.

22 in I.D. Annual Design Review 2009

Since 1954, the I.D. Annual Design Review has recognized the best in product, furniture, graphic, and environment design, from the iconic to the obscure. For 2009, Bocci’s 22 has been awarded for design distinction in the furniture category (not sure if it is furniture though? - whatever). Here is what the judges had to say:

“This is just beautifully made,” said Breitling of Omer Arbel’s 22 series of interior wall accessories.

Created to be flush-mounted into drywall or millwork without the need for cover plates. Arbel’s design transforms the standard three-pronged power receptacle into a grinning anthropomorphized character if clustered in groups. Alternatively, when scattered sparingly, the seamless socket can evoke a more simple, stripped-down aesthetic.

The three jurors also raved about the 22’s stainless steel removal tool, which extracts the sockets in case the outlet needs rewiring. “This has to be the best accessory ever,” noted Oliver, tool in hand.

Bocci is a contemporary design and manufacturing house located in Vancouver, Canada. Omer Arbel is their creative director - he is a good friend of ours.

Art Gallery of Ontario - Frank Gehry’s Redesign

Frank Gehry, has designed mega buildings around the world - seems hard to believe that at the age of 80, the new AGO is this Toronto-born first building in Canada. One of Gehry’s early sources of career inspiration was the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto known as the “Father of Modernism” in Scandinavian countries. To me, Alvar is known as the father of Bent Wood - It would appear that Gehry knows him as that as well.

Card(Surf)board

Amazing surfboards by Mike Sheldrake - He is building hollow, cardboard core surfboards with a “Cross-sectional Notched Rib Assembly”. Mike has a Web programming background and with a little research into the math used to describe curves, he started developing a web page to graphically adjust those board curves, and a rendering engine that takes those curves and builds a 3D mathematical model of a surfboard. Rather than learn CAD he made his own. He has made a ton of boards now and even offers the kits for sale so you can make you own.
